MSc in Infertility – Assisted Reproduction Techniques

Program Overview – Objectives

The MSc in Infertility – Assisted Reproduction Techniques aims to provide comprehensive, systematic, and modern education to healthcare professionals (including physicians specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, biologists, and midwives/nurses) in the diagnosis and treatment of human infertility, clinical embryology, and assisted reproduction. This pioneering program, offered for the first time in Greece, equips healthcare professionals with high-level, accredited training that combines theoretical knowledge and essential clinical and laboratory skills, preparing them to effectively manage patients with infertility.

The program is designed for three main professional groups: doctors (obstetricians-gynecologists), midwives/nurses, and biologists/embryologists. Additionally, it may appeal to professionals in related fields, such as legal experts specializing in medical law, judges, and managers of assisted reproduction units, who, while not engaging in practical training, will benefit from a theoretical foundation to enhance their understanding and expertise. The curriculum includes core courses relevant to all three professional groups, as well as specialized courses tailored to each. Practical training is also provided, adapted to the unique requirements of each group. Students receive theoretical training on the prerequisites for organizing and operating Assisted Reproduction Units, Clinical Embryology and Andrology Laboratories, and Cryopreservation Banks.

This MSc program is designed to prepare graduates for professional opportunities in infertility and assisted reproduction settings, ultimately enhancing the quality of healthcare by establishing high professional standards. Completion of the program supports the official certification of the candidates’ skills, knowledge, and practical experience, aiding in their professional advancement both nationally and internationally.

The primary aim of the MSc in Infertility – Assisted Reproduction Techniques is to deliver specialized training to students, enabling them to:

  • Develop high-level accredited education in both theory and the required clinical and laboratory skills to manage infertility patients effectively.
  • Advance research (both clinical and basic) in the field of assisted reproduction.
  • Enhance their knowledge in endoscopic techniques related to assisted reproduction.

Upon the successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Master’s Degree in Science (MSc) in “Infertility – Assisted Reproduction Techniques” by the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
